Karin’s work is inspired by long term research on daily life & improvisation in informal settlements in Brazil, India, South Africa, Nigeria, Kenya and China. Informal settlements function like micro economies where people improvise to survive, with a powerful and innovative energy. By improvising they create a job, build toys to play, and build & decorate their homes without means. Since 2008, CLOUD-9 has designed Haworth showrooms and Haworth X Friends Clubs globally, 49 showroom until today. All designs for Haworth are LEED GOLD/PLATINUM certified. For the interior design of The Club Haworth x Friends in Beijing, CLOUD-9 Shanghai received the world's first new LEED4 certification.
